Jodie Hames

Clayworks Pottery grew from the rugged shores of Georgian Bay just north of Jodies home town, Parry Sound Ontario. Images of the wind swept Jack Pine to the elusive Dragonfly is abundant in her works of art.

Jodie began her adventure after receiving a fine arts degree in 1996 from Georgian Collage with an aspiration to paint in oils. Four years working with potter, Barb Jackson of Toad Hill pottery, Jodie swayed her passion to a new medium. With clay, Jodie was able to take her creativity to a whole new level with painting, carving and sculpture in each unique piece.

Just outside of Killbear Provincial Park was Jodie’s main studio location. From here she would take excursions to Franklin Island, Red Rock, the Minks and as far north as the French River gathering ideas and inspiration.

In 2012, Jodie and her family moved to Bethany, a small town in the Kawartha Lakes, Ontario with a whole new landscape to draw from. After settling in, the doors of Clayworks Pottery are now once open again.

Her work can be found on line at clayworkspottery.ca or in the studio at 112 Weston Road, Bethany Ontario by chance or appointment.

Dragonfly pate: all pieces have a handmade dragonfly to hold the knife in place, so every one is unique. Great for your favorite dips and spreads. The pate dishes start at Thirty five dollars, different styles and sizes available.

Lizard: I usually try to put a hook in the lizard so you can also hang them on the wall. This one has had many different glazes layered to create effect. These are also made in different sizes and colors. A great conversational piece to have hanging around.

Gargoyle: This gargoyle has been made with cream color stoneware clay and I've used iron oxide to decorate the body. By rubbing the iron on and then removing excess away with a wet sponge this leaves a detail in the grooves of the clay. Gargoyles are a fun surprise in the garden!
